Security Door and Security Lighting – Two Important Components of your Home Security

The security of your family is a matter that should not be taken lightly. Many people agree and go to great lengths to ensure that security by installing state of the art electronic monitoring devices and security alarms. Much too often, though, homeowners neglect two of the most important security issues of the home: a security door and security lighting.

In order to be truly secure, external doors should be of solid construction using durable, strong materials, such as steel. . Hollow doors or doors with too much glass are not secure because they are too easy to break. If your door must have glass in its design, choose laminated glass. It is much harder to break than other types of glass and is more secure.

Exterior doors should also be equipped with a deadbolt lock. The door should be hung on three strong, 4″ hinges to offer maximum security, and the frame should be solid, in good condition, and securely fastened to the house.

Keep entryways well lit

Proper lighting is vital at the main entryways of the home. Statistics show that most people are ambushed in dark, poorly lit places. Don’t let your entryway give a criminal the privacy he needs to carry out his attack. Install proper and adequate lighting along all entry walkways and over exterior doors.

Many security light systems are very inexpensive to purchase and easy to install. They can also be equipped with motion detectors so that they will light up at the first sign of activity. This safety feature not only protects you in the event that you arrive home after dark, it also is energy efficient.

These two security issues are perhaps the least expensive steps that can be taken to protect your family. Do not wait another day. Address your home’s door security.
